Unique 1800's 4 Gauge Yacht Signal Cannon!

Antique Yacht signal cannon 4 gauge

This Cannon has been in one family as since 1916 and it never had the original breach block.

Many years ago a Southwestern professional gunsmith made a precision, functioning breach-block/firing assembly, with a spring loaded cocking hammer and fired by lanyard.

Due to the high costs of firing (a single 4 Gauge brass shell, when available, can cost over $30.00 each, unloaded), this cannon has a stainless steel, custom machined 10 Ga. Barrel insert built allowing it to also fire  the common 10 Gauge blanks.

Black Powder cannon 10 gauge cartridges cost about $2.00 each.

Specifications for this Cannon:

  5 inch diameter Brass Wheels

 White hard rubber tires

  Overall length: 28 inches

 Barrel: 19 1/2 inches

Total Weight:  45 1/2 lbs.

Antique Yacht signal cannon 4 gauge

The 1800-1900s period workmanship in this antique is superb.

Compare to any detailed workmanship & sized cannon "Production Cannons" made in large numbers, especially in the rare 4 gauge caliber like R.H. Brown cannons, and few if any others.

They sell for $7,000-10,000 dollars in this size!

Unbelievable Pieces of United States History!

A Fantastic Pair of Revolutionary War Bronze Cannons

Paul Revere Bronze Cannon

Most likely made by Paul Revere in his Boston foundry. These were used in the Battle of Penobscot Bay on his ship the Springmain.

Revolutionary War Bronze cannon  American Bronze Cannon

These cannons measure 3 feet 9 inches each from breech ring to muzzle and 4 feet 1.5 inches in overall length. They have a 3.125 inch bore and weigh an estimated 150-200 lbs. each. The guns are numbered 395 and 397 with the numbers being punched on the face of the right-hand trunnion on each.

Markings: A very large raised Indian with a bow in his right hand and sheaf of arrows in his left.

One cannon has the original middle sight with markings (another could be easily made from this sample for the second gun). Both cannons are exactly the same, except one does not have the original sight.

  • These cannon were partially restored and fired in the 1960s during a "Beating the Retreat Ceremony" in Sydney, Australia. The ceremony was hosted by the Australian Army and visitors from an American artillery enthusiasts group from Boston attended.  There should be no problems in firing them now for smoke and noise and possibly for live fire.

This fantastic pair of cannons are currently located in Australia where they have been in one family's possession since 1880!  We can export then to anywhere in the world.
